Monterey, CA, October 01, 2018 — The Monterey Cowboy Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, so saddle up and mosey on down to the Monterey County Fair & Event Center on Nov. 3, and enjoy music from country artists such as Jon Pardi and Corb Lund, cowboy poetry, food and drink and a western art and gear marketplace.

The 20th Annual Monterey Cowboy Festival, previously the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival, takes place from 11:00 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center at 2004 Fairground Road, in Monterey.

Tickets range in price from $19 for a Grounds Pass to $247 for a VIP experience, and are available online at www.montereycowboy.org. The festival celebrates Monterey's contribution to our country’s western heritage, bringing people together to enjoy and learn more about the "cowboy way of life," including its history, current values and culture.

The lineup includes “throwback” country artist Jon Pardi, Texas neotraditionalist country trio Midland, country singer Corb Lund, and cowboy poets Waddie Mitchell and Paul Zarzyski on the Main Arena Stage.

Playing on the Garden Stage on the grounds will be Ernie Sites, Cow Bop, Mike Beck, Juni Fisher, Andy Hedges, Tom Swearingen, The Carolyn Sills Combo, Joni Harms, Almeda Bradshaw, and The Hasslers.

The Marketplace, located on the Main Lawn next to the food and drink vendors, hosts some of the finest western art and gear vendors in the country, from customs saddles, fine leather boots and stunning paintings to handmade jewelry.

Since its inception, the festival’s foundation has been charity, giving more than $50,000 to local charities over the past 19 years as a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3).

The majority of those years were led by the festival's founder and former Monterey police chief, Gary Brown, who lost his battle with lung disease in 2016. Brown founded the Monterey Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival in 1998 in an effort to preserve the culture of the American cowboy, while doing all he could to give back to the local community.

In an effort to continue Gary's commitment to giving, the festival has announced the formation of the Gary Brown Scholarship Fund, which will focus on students in seventh to 12th grade in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties who are looking to enhance their music education in the areas of school tuition, music camp tuition, private music lessons, or musical equipment purchase/repair. Breast Cancer Assistance Group’s ‘Pink Partners’ Promotion with Local Businesses Raises Funds for Breast Cancer Patients

One in eight local women will experience the physical and emotional ravages of breast cancer.

Monterey, CA, October 02, 2018 — One in eight local women will experience the physical and emotional ravages of breast cancer. Breast cancer has high financial costs and many breast cancer patients find themselves unable to work during treatments.

The Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey County (BCAG), an all-volunteer organization of breast cancer survivors, provides need-based grants that help patients in active treatment with their basic living expenses.

In honor of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BCAG is partnering with local businesses to raise funds and awareness to enable BCAG to help local breast cancer patients experiencing financial hardship due to their diagnosis and treatment.

One hundred percent of every dollar donated through BCAG's “Pink Partners” promotion with local businesses will go to help breast cancer patients with food, housing, utilities, transportation, and other daily-living costs. During the past year BCAG awarded more than $116,000 to 77 local women.

BCAG is encouraging the public to show their support for helping the local community by patronizing the following businesses, participating in their special events and purchasing “Pink Partner” merchandise.

For the third year Pebble Beach Resorts will be showing its support for BCAG by donating $1 from every glass of rosé wine and “October Rose” cocktail at the following restaurants and bars:

Opening the spectacular 52nd season for Chamber Music Monterey Bay is the Van Kuijk Quartet from France on their first tour of the United States. Currently BBC New Generation Artists, the Van Kuijk Quartet’s international accolades boast Best Beethoven and Best Haydn Prizes at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet competition, First Prize and an Audience Award at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, as well as becoming laureates of the Aix-en-Provence Festival Academy. They join the ECHO Rising Stars roster for the 2017-2018 season. Their performance at the 2016 annual Chamber Music America meeting totally won over CMMB’s artisticadvisors, who ‘jumped the line’ in order to get on the 2018-19 tour schedule. This is a young string quartet to watch!

Since their formation in 2012, the ensemble is already an established presence in major international venues, performing at the Wigmore Hall in London, Auditorium du Louvre and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Tonhalle in Zurich, Musikverein in Vienna, Berliner Philharmonie, Tivoli Concert Series in Denmark, Sage Gateshead, and at festivals in Cheltenham, Heidelberg, Lockenhaus, Davos, Verbier, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier/Radio France, Evian, Auvers-sur-Oise, Stavanger (Norway), Concentus Moraviae (Czech Republic), Haydn/Esterházy in Fertod (Hungary), Eilat (Israel) and Canberra (Australia). Monterey Symphony Announces Landmark Endowment Gift from Bertie Bialek Elliott

Monterey, CA, September 25, 2018 - Bertie Bialek Elliott has served in many capacities with the Monterey Symphony and has been attending and supporting the organization for over 35 years. Before the opening of the 73rd season of the Symphony, Bertie made the decision to give $2.4M to the Symphony's endowment fund, ensuring a vibrant and healthy financial future for the organization. These endowment funds will be used to support the artistic and administrative vision of the organization. In honor of Bertie's tremendous generosity, the Symphony has named these funds the BERTIE BIALEK ELLIOTT ENDOWMENT.

This transformational gift, along with a bequest received earlier this year from the MARGARET ANDERSON RADUNICH TRUST, has bolstered the institution financially. “It’s difficult to put into words what this gift means to the Symphony,” said Executive Director Nicola Samra. “Bertie’s generosity has reframed the conversation about the Symphony’s longevity. The Monterey Symphony, founded in 1947, serves the diverse communities of the Monterey Peninsula through a subscription series at Sunset Center in Carmel and a wide reaching youth education program, Music for the Schools. During the 2018-19 season the Symphony will return to Salinas with two youth concerts reaching nearly 3,000 students. Additionally, the Symphony will present six youth concerts at Sunset Center, reaching 4,500 students. Every 3rd grader in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School district participates in the Symphony's program, as well as every 5th grader in the Salinas Union School District. The Symphony recently received an award for Outstanding Non-Profit from the Non-Profit Alliance of Monterey County.

The Monterey Symphony opens its 73rd season, Sound Waves, on October 20th, 2018 with the world premiere of a commissioned work by 22-year old composer, Alex Berko. The work was commissioned in partnership with the Big Sur Land Trust and Berko spent a week in residence at the Glen Deven Ranch in Big Sur.
